Code of Conduct — Key Points
A clear framework of expectations that governs daily life at St. Joseph’s Convent School — covering timing, academics, behaviour, safety, and discipline.
SECTION 01
Timing & Entry / Exit
- Arrive 5–10 minutes before the first bell; latecomers need permission and get logged. After 3 late entries, a ₹20 fine applies each time after.
- Early arrivals wait under security guard supervision — no entering buildings/classrooms more than 10 minutes early, and no loitering in isolated corners.
- Once on campus, students can't leave without an official gate pass. After school hours, no loitering outside the gate — waiting students must stay on campus.
SECTION 02
Attendance & Academics
- 75% attendance is mandatory to sit exams.
- Leave needs a parent-signed application; forged leave letters or signatures are treated as serious criminal offenses (suspension).
- Sick students shouldn't be sent in for exams — must apply for leave instead.
- Compulsory reading targets (12 English, 6 Hindi, 6 Punjabi books/year from Class 5 up), with summaries submitted — marks deducted for non-compliance.
SECTION 03
Character & Conduct
- A personality-traits register tracks plus/minus points each term; 90%+ positive earns an appreciation award.
- Serious-offense list mirrors the parents' section: indecent relationships/communications, cybercrime, bullying (including on social media), abusive language, pornographic content, secret friendships, physical/verbal violence, personal vendettas — most carry immediate suspension and possible dismissal.
- Tattoos and "immodest" self-adornment are prohibited and can trigger a parent meeting.
- A threat of suicide/self-harm or harming others in response to discipline leads to immediate dismissal, a mandatory parental undertaking, and a copy filed with police.
SECTION 04
Property, Dress & Items
- Prohibited items: fireworks, matches, weapons, razors, sling shots, knives, perfume, costly toys, "smart" watches with mobile/computer functions, valuables.
- Cell phones are banned; if found, confiscated until year-end.
- Girls advised against wearing costly ornaments; school won't compensate for lost valuables.
- Uniform must be clean and undecorated; untidy grooming draws a fine and, if repeated, a parent letter.
- Damage to school property must be repaid by the student responsible.
SECTION 05
Language & Instruction
- English is the medium of instruction; students are encouraged (not punished) to speak English, and are never to be fined for using their mother tongue.
- Punjabi is compulsory from UKG; extra-fee Hindi coaching available for board-optional students.
SECTION 06
Money, Gifts & Outside Contact
- No lending/borrowing money or exchanging items without teacher permission.
- No unsanctioned fundraising, meetings, or gifts to staff.
- No inviting outside friends onto campus without permission; no unsupervised visits to cinemas/parties/friends' homes en route to/from school.
- Girls especially warned against accepting food or engaging with strangers en route.
SECTION 07
Safety & Complaints Mechanism
- Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) handles sexual/physical harassment, including under the POCSO Act 2012 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013.
- False accusations against an innocent person can lead to prosecution of the complainant.
- Two ID cards issued per student (worn on campus + one with parents for pickup verification).
- Exam malpractice → zero marks, possible dismissal.
SECTION 08
Discipline Authority
- The Principal has final discretion to suspend/expel a student "in the interest of the school" and isn't obligated to justify the decision to the student or parents.
