Code of Conduct for Parents — Key Points

A partnership between home and school is essential. These guidelines set out the expectations for parents and guardians of students at St. Joseph’s Convent School.

SECTION 01

Admission & Administration

  • Parents must read the prospectus and sign an affidavit agreeing to the terms before admission — ignorance of the rules doesn't excuse breaking them.
  • The school is run by the Diocese of Jalandhar as an unaided Christian minority institution, exercising autonomy under Articles 29 & 30(1) of the Constitution over admissions, fees, and discipline. It isn't obligated to form a parents' association or heed group demands — individual concerns go through PTMs.
  • One child's admission doesn't guarantee seats for siblings/relatives.
SECTION 02

Conduct Expectations

  • Parents inciting agitation or joining anti-social elements against the school risk their child being expelled (rustication).
  • Shouting at or belittling a teacher, especially in front of students, is treated as serious misconduct — even amounting to a criminal offense, inviting legal action.
  • Visitors must dress modestly; casual/short attire can draw a warning, repeated issues can lead to a Transfer Certificate (TC/expulsion).
  • Parents can't walk into classrooms or pull aside teachers without the Principal's permission; school matters should be raised during school hours, preferably by appointment — contacting staff at home/off-hours is forbidden.
SECTION 03

Transport Safety

  • Children must be transported only via vehicles compliant with the government's "safe school vahan" policy and Punjab & Haryana High Court traffic rules. Non-compliant transport can lead to a notice or being asked to withdraw the child.
  • The school isn't solely liable for safety with private transporters arranged without its involvement.
SECTION 04

Discipline Process

  • No corporal punishment — instead, serious misbehavior triggers a "Letter of Information" to parents.
  • After three such letters without improvement, the student may be asked to leave.
SECTION 05

Fees & Finances

  • Fee structure is reviewed/updated every March (no government aid received).
  • Extra charges apply for annual functions, co-curricular trips, and any new facilities the majority of parents opt into.
SECTION 06

Other Important Points

  • The school isn't responsible for lost valuables — advises against bringing costly items.
  • Serious offense category: any inappropriate/indecent communication or relationship between students, verbal or electronic — can mean immediate discontinuation of studies.
  • Requests concerning a child generally need both parents' signatures, to avoid disputes.

Please Note

  • • Cooperation with the school’s code of conduct is a condition of admission.
  • • Serious misconduct by parents may affect the child’s continuation in the school.
  • • All school matters must be raised through the proper channel and during school hours.
  • • Requests concerning a student generally require both parents’ signatures.
